Last Weekend
We've been getting ready for the Trial & Tribulations weekend in Oakland for over a month. It's the story of a slave family seeking their freedom after working in Illinois for over a year. They had been threatened by Col. Matson's mistress that their children would be sold south. They saught freedom in the town of Oakland with the help of Dr. Hiram Rutherford and Gideon Ashmore. Abraham Lincoln represented the slave holder (the only time in history he represented a slave holder). Young Abe lost this case, the slave were set free. Just a snipit in the history of our town.
The museum I am on the board for is "Dr. Hiram Rutherford's Home". So since the first of August we have been getting the grounds ready for the weekend. Lot's of folks in town, wonderful dinner theater event. Traveling to a couple sites here in Oakland with live interpreters. All telling there version of this story.
